Cllr Zak Khan two representatives from the Issa Foundation unexpectedly turned up to the meeting
Cllr Zak Khan organised a meeting at Oswaldtwistle Social Club on Monday evening to allow people to share their objections to the plans for the new cemetery between Oswaldtwistle and Blackburn proposed by the Issa Foundation. Councillors Marlene Haworth, Peter Britcliffe, Steven Smithson also joined the meeting on Monday.
Despite the fact that the Issa Foundation has reduced its initial request for 35,000 burial plots in the area, spanning 84 acres to 13,500 burial plots covering 18.5 hectares, concerned residents are still objecting to the plans. A spokesperson for the Foundation said: “Representatives from our advisors attended the public meeting at Oswaldtwistle Social Club on Monday purely as observers and to further ascertain additional concerns of attendees, so that these maybe be addressed in a proposed planning application.
“Having also reviewed social media feeds from other attendees, sentiments about this matter being too politicised and racial in nature are also not helpful. He also says many of his constituents have told him the plans are making them want to move out of the area.
