Lyn and Dave Reynolds read about the campaign to help Amber Travers
Grieving parents have told how they were moved to back a campaign to help a talented schoolgirl get a new pair of legs.
But, her dreams of getting new legs came crashing down when the schoolgirl was reportedly told her goal of "being able to walk again" wasn't a “good enough" reason to be given free prosthetic legs. Heartbroken by the news, her headteacher, Kevin Lynch, from Nexgen Academy, has set out to raise the £15,000 Amber needs to fund her own set of legs.
Lyn told ECHO: "We read the news on Kirsty's one year anniversary and it hit home with Amber. Kirsty was a dance and drama teacher for children with special needs, at Sandfield Park School, and she would have jumped at the chance to have Amber in her shows and pantomimes after hearing about her singing voice.
"Both her mum and dad are pensioners, she is a special needs teacher, it's a stressful job. She had an MRI in June and they found fluid on her brain. She had had a tumour when she was 14 but had it removed and everything was fine. During her lifetime Kirsty had done so much to help children like Amber and raise thousands for charity. Lyn said: "The fact we can do this in Kirsty's name is just amazing. She had raised over £5,000 for Woodland on a sponsored walk and had done so much for others. She was special. She was gifted.
"Kirsty would have loved Amber, teaching singing and dancing to young children was her life - that's why it's so hard because, it has been taken. But, just knowing that this is going to help Amber means everything, it just means everything.
