Meanwhile, those who were never convicted but incurred a loss, should be entitled to a fixed sum award of £75,000 and can claim for any additional losses that may have been incurred. She agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of false accounting and was given a 12-month community order. In December 2019, a High Court judge ruled that the Horizon system contained a number of “bugs, errors and defects” and there was a “material risk” that shortfalls in Post Office branch accounts were caused by the system. Her conviction was finally quashed in 2021.
“While I know that nothing can make up for what they’ve been through, today’s legislation marks an important step forward in finally clearing their names.
