Mr Andrews made the shock announcement during a snap press conference on Tuesday, declaring that it was “time”. Ms Credlin recognised the outgoing Premier as one of the “most brutally effective political players” she has observed in politics but criticised Mr Andrews for failing to handle the state’s massive debt and his COVID-19 pandemic management. “The man who made Melbourne the world's most locked-down city, the man who gave Victorians the most miserable two years of our lives – got off scott-free,” she said. “In his wake, he leaves a state that's still broken, a CBD struggling to get back to where it was, a legacy of mental health harm, and small businesses that will never recover.” The outgoing Victorian Premier’s resignation will take effect at 5pm on Wednesday, with the Labor caucus to then decide on his successor.
