A judge said: 'It's absolutely clear that this dog will attack small dogs and will attack their owners' but didn't order its destruction
A vicious bull mastiff has been spared the lethal injection for a second time after biting a woman as she desperately tried to free her little dog from its jaws.
Lucas, 50, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, September 18, where he pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury. Kate Morley, defending, said Reggie was described as "a placid and affectionate dog" who gave "great comfort" to Lucas' disabled nine-year-old nephew.
She said: "Lucas has had a number of physical health problems over the years that have also affected his mental health. Reggie came into his life four years ago and have him a purpose in life. Reggie has been his companion and his reason for getting out of bed each day. Reggie has been tremendous for both his social and mental health."
"The incident was caused by the escape of your dog from your mother's house. Apparently she came in with shopping and left the door open - of course she did. How else was she going to get into the house? When she came into the house it was absolutely, blindingly, obviously required that you control your dog, that you put him in another room and shut the door.
