It is easier to donate corneas than organs but the NHS is still facing a shortage, officials have said.
NHS Blood and Transplant figures for 2021/22 show that as of Thursday 31 March this year, nearly 1 in 10 of people who joined the organ donation register chose not to donate their corneas. Ms Harris, from Romford in Essex, decided to donate after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that has spread through her neck and spine. She was initially given 6 to 12 months to live but it has now been 18 months since her diagnosis.
