Yes,Both joined the Royal Household within a year or two of one another and Sir Clive took time out to serve as the UK’s ambassador to Morocco before returning to Charles’s staff.
Both have an extensive range of duties, co-ordinating their principals’ diaries, accompanying them on engagements at home and abroad, acting as sounding boards and liaising with the rest of the family. Granted, being secretary to the monarch carries some extra responsibilities. He is the key link between Buckingham Palace and Downing Street on constitutional matters. He forms a triumvirateThe King’s private secretary is his primary source of advice in his role as head of state, head of the Commonwealth and Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Charles leans on him heavily and values his opinions. But Sophie is also Camilla’s key adviser.
Sir Clive’s salary is about £210,000, while Ms Densham’s is approximately £95,000. I am not suggesting that her pay should be equal, because his job is clearly the senior post –indeed he is the Private Secretary to the Queen too – but Ms Densham is surely not worth less than half?that Ms Densham’s remuneration package is “set to a comparable position of the private secretary to the late Duke of Edinburgh”.
