Former rugby league star Matty Johns has taken aim at the NRL for its rule forcing players to spend 15 minutes on the sideline regardless of the result of their Head Injury Assessment.
Under the current rules a player who is sent from the field for an HIA is required to spend 15 minutes on the sidelines but Johns believes there is no reason for there to be a delay if the player passes the test.
“If it’s three minutes just get back out there, if it takes 20 it takes 20 minutes, I just cannot get my head around why they need to sit on the sidelines for an additional ten minutes.” “I can understand here there’s a few cracks in the system, simply because we’re reacting to what we’ve learnt, I think it’s better to react and get it slightly wrong rather than just sit on their hands,” he said.
