The search is on to find the cause of bubbles which filled the air in Tameside
An investigation is underway to find the cause of pollution which left a Greater Manchester street looking like 'a foam party in Ibiza'. Bizarre bubbles floated in the air in parts of Tameside this morning .
One resident living close to the river, who asked not to be named, said she had never seen anything like it before. "I was looking out of the window at the back," the 51-year-old said. Foam could be seen flowing along the River Tame near Park Road throughout the morning and afternoon. While most of the bubbles had stopped launching into the air by mid-morning, the bizarre phenomenon did happen again on a couple of occasions while suds collided on the river.
He believes today's unusual incident should be a reminder of the need for action to clean up the river. "The River Tame has been subjected to repeated pollution events in recent years in addition to the routine sewage discharges," said Prof Woodward.
