Capri's rugged landscape attracts visitors far and wide, but they may not realise the ban that is said to have gone into effect.
The Mediterranean island hotspot of Capri has reportedly instituted a ban on smoking on its beautiful beaches.
People at the scenic Italian isle are said to be banned from smoking on its beaches. What's more, visitors who litter cigarettes on their shores are said to risk being fined. Neopolitan newspaper Il Mattino quoted Francesco Emilio Borrelli, deputy of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, said: "A necessary measure, the good example of Capri should be extended to all the beaches in the country and in all the cities of Campania that have not yet implemented it.
"In summer, we will patrol the beaches of Naples giving away ashtrays to concretely teach citizens to be respectful of the environment and others' health; unfortunately, however, incivility is extremely widespread, and we find ourselves with sand infested with cigarette butts."
