The sale featured more than 200 items from members of the royal family, but was billed as an extensive collection of Diana’s personal items.
An auction led by items from the collection of Diana, Princess of Wales has sold for more than £4 million at auction.
A magenta silk and lace off-the-shoulder evening dress designed by Victor Edelstein, which Diana wore in London and Germany in 1987, topped the sale at 910,000 dollars – four-and-a-half times its original lower estimate. Diana’s favourite designers including Edelstein, Caroline Charles, and Catherine Walker all featured in the auction titled Princess Diana’s Elegance & A Royal Collection, which was held at The Peninsula Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.
While a two-page handwritten letter to Mr and Mrs Pendrey from Diana in 1985, which featured reference photos of William and Harry which Diana signed “This comes with much love from the four of us” – sold for 28,575 dollars .
