Emmerdale fans were left congratulating the show after a character is seen making use of a law allowing people to ask police if their partner has an abusive past.
Later, when Tom sees a customer out of the vets, Belle asks him to go and collect Piper, so she could say her final goodbyes. But he tells her it is not possible for her to pick her dog as he does not have it. Furious that he took away her chance to say goodbye, she asks him if this is what he meant when he said ‘her loved ones will be punished and she will regret not taking him back’.
However, she is interrupted by Lydia who claims it is a misunderstanding, as Tom is soon at the door with a basket containing Pipers body - which was the plan 'all along'.At the burial site of Piper, Tom gives a ‘heartfelt’ speech about Piper being a ‘family member’ and always making the pair laugh.
Having no other option, Belle is seen at the police station where she tells an officer she wants to use Clare’s Law to learn about Tom's past. Also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, Clare's Law is a police policy enabling people to ask if their partner has a history of violent or abusive crime.
