The inside track on the football stories that matter
Rangers have set an “astronomical” price tag on Jack Butland as alarm bells ring over the club’s financial situation,, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that Philippe Clement’s £30million valuation for the goalkeeper is likely to put off any interested clubs.
While this will see Clement’s team keep a star player at Ibrox, it will do no favours in terms of strengthening the squad to push on, causing concerns among supporters. Butland arrived at Ibrox for free last summer after leaving Crystal Palace and quickly established himself as a vital component of the team.
Last season, he featured 58 times across all competitions and helped Rangers to lift the Scottish League Cup despite falling short in the Scottish Cup and the League.
