The former Aston Villa captain was an unused substitute for Manchester City on Saturday afternoon as Jeremy Doku grabbed the headlines against Bournemouth.
Jack Grealish could only watch on and applaud when his main rival for a place in the Manchester City team put in such a five-star display against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
While still raw, Doku is not so much a rough diamond as a player capable in the here and now and one who quite alarmingly for City's main rivals still has some growing room. He is already a problem for Premier League defenders and teammate Grealish might soon discover whether or not he has one with him in selection terms.
"I'm a big confidence player, I want to feel loved," admitted Grealish in a typically candid interview with City media last month. "It's okay the manager going; 'You're so important to the team, Jack' but then not picking you. Then you would think; 'Yeah, you're just saying that'. Pep didn't say anything to me at all, but he picked me for the big games, and that said everything.
Erling Haaland naturally grabbed on-field headlines in that success, while Grealish took centre stage in the iconic celebrations that followed.
