Denise Mina, who follows Rebus writer Sir Ian Rankin as guest programmer, has lured Lee Child, author of the famous Jack Reacher stories, as the headliner at the event.
One of Scotland’s most prolific authors is hosting the eagerly anticipated Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival in Stirling . And the writer of classics like Rizzio, which was her take on the murder of Mary Queen of Scots, The End of the Wasp Season and Still Midnight, has enticed a leading English author to be her star guest at the autumn event.
Denise Mina, who follows Rebus writer Sir Ian Rankin as guest programmer, has lured Lee Child, author of the famous Jack Reacher stories, as the headliner at the event, tickets for which are now on sale. Denise said: “Lee Child is a cool incarnate and I will fight any man, woman or child who says otherwise. Preferably a child. I’m not very good at fighting.
“The best thing about being guest programmer is precisely this: getting to invite one of the greats to come to Stirling. We’re honoured he agreed. ” Lee Child said: “I was asked – do I want to come back to Stirling and appear with Denise Mina? You bet I do.
“Stirling is a beautiful city, and Denise is an all-time great. I would walk there; OK, hitch-hike. ” The other headliners invited by Denise in her capacity as guest programmer will be released in the coming days. On Tuesday, May 28, Bloody Scotland will be revealing the shortlisted authors for the Bloody Scotland Debut Prize 2026.
The rest of the Bloody Scotland 2026 programme – featuring many other big names in the world of crime fiction and an exciting range of fringe events – will be revealed at The Golden Lion in Stirling at noon on Thursday, June 4, followed by an event at 1.30pm with bestselling author, J D Kirk. A host of well-known Scottish crime writers and the up and coming authors featured on the Debut Prize shortlist will also be in attendance.
