In a Friday filing in Donald Trump's classified documents case in Florida, Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith lists specific threats the former president has made, calling them 'egregious.'Trump is expected to stand trial after being indicted last June by the DOJ on 40 federal charges, alleging that he illegally retained classified documents after leaving the White House in 2021 and obstructed the government's efforts to retrieve them.
''Trump, for his part, has 'repeatedly' made 'threatening public statements,' including a message of vengeance the day after his initial appearance in court... His rhetoric on social media also contains clear allusions to violence. On September 22, 2023, on Truth Social, the defendant falsely claimed that a witness, the retiring Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had committed treason and intimated that he should be executed,' Smith added.
