The Blackburn loanee hit the right note at the Well end of season awards when he shelled out in the name of the youth academy.
Jack Vale gave something back to Motherwell by digging deep for a bottle of wine and signed 1991 Scottish Cup Final programme at the club’s awards bash.
And the 23-year-old striker insists he wouldn’t have put his hand in his pocket had he not grown a deep affection for the Steelmen during what he says has been the most profitable loan spell of his career. Vale’s moment was shared on the club’s social media and won him instant legend status with punters. And he said: “It was for a good cause so I thought I’d put some money into the academy and I’m happy I did it. I got a signed bottle of wine and magazine from the old Motherwell players.
Vale has struck three goals in his 13 games since moving to Lanarkshire in January. And while he wouldn’t rule out returning next season, the Wales U-21 international would love to notch against St Johnstone just in case it’s his Steelmen swansong. He said: “I want to score and assist every game. To get a goal and sign off this loan positively would be great. You never really know where you'll end up. This is my fifth loan. But this is the most I’ve enjoyed my football.
“I got told the Blackburn manager wanted to watch me because he’s new to what I had with Jon Dahl Tomasson. He wanted to make a decision whether to keep me. I’ve got another year and I've been told I'm back for pre-season. I’ve got to wait till the summer and wait to see what happens.”
