Jacob Rees-Mogg has issued a list of rules for parliamentary staff banning words including ‘disappointment’ and ‘equal’ as well as ordering the use of imperial measurements.

The list of 18 banned sayings also includes ‘hopefully’, ‘equal’, ‘unacceptable’, ‘very’, ‘ongoing’, ‘due to’, ‘lot’, ‘speculate’, ‘disappointment’, ‘meet with’, ‘I am pleased to learn’, and ‘I note your concern’.Some pointed out that Mr Rees-Mogg’s banning of the word ‘equal’ was particularly poignant as he publicly opposes several social topics including same-sex marriage and abortion.
