The Jacksonville Jaguars have released former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Denzel Mims.
New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims runs a pattern against the Chicago Bears during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, in East Rutherford, N.J. . Mims joined the Jaguars roster as the Steelers cut him on June 19, and Jacksonville snapped him up the next day. Despite being in training camp with the team all summer, Mims could not prove himself worthy of a 53-man roster spot.
The New York Jets’ second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Mims, has not lived up to the draft hype he garnered when. The First-Team All-Big 12 selection has just 676 receiving yards on 42 receptions over his NFL career, with all of that production coming with the Jets. The Jets traded Mims in 2023 to the Detroit Lions, but the Lions waived/injured Mims after Mims suffered an ankle injury during the team’s training camp. Following cut down day, the Steelers signed Mims to the practice squad. At the time, his college wide receivers coach, Frisman Jackson, was the Steelers’Mims has stuck around the NFL for five seasons and could be in a good position to land a spot on the Jaguars’ practice squad behind their 53-man roster.
