President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday reiterated his order to the Food and Drug Administration to hold accountable establishments or individuals involved in selling fake medicines.The Chief Executive issued the directive following the disclosure of FDA officer-in-charge Oscar Gutierrez that the agency clamped down on 78 neighborhood stores for violating Republic Act 10918, otherwise known as the Philippine Pharmacy Act.

Thirteen other establishments were also found to have sold fake medicines purportedly to treat Covid-19.Duterte said selling fake medicines is a 'serious fraud' and violators should be jailed.'That's the only way to discourage people selling fake medicines even if they are legit outlets,' the President said during his 'Talk to The People' public briefing.
