Michael Joyce, 33, has been sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison for the murder of Michael White, 61, a frail widower and retired B&B owner. Joyce was accused of treating White as a slave, making him perform various tasks and transferring money to his account. White was found with significant injuries in Kyle of Lochalsh, Wester Ross, and had rib fractures and signs of older injuries. The judge, Lady Poole, described White as a kind and gentle person who always put others first.
Joyce's partner, Antonia Gunn, was acquitted of murder on a not proven verdict, but admitted to witnessing Joyce punch White forcefully. Joyce, despite denying responsibility, was found guilty of murder
