The star gushed to the crowd that it was 'great to be hosting the finale of season 49,' and then joked, 'I mean, when you think of historic television seasons, the first number that pops into your head is 49.' 'But who cares?' Gyllenhaal asked the audience. 'You know. 40 is a great number. I mean, seven times seven. Classic. Oh, and 49 is like 69 but easier.'
Gyllenhaal then started to belt out the tune from Boyz II Men's hit 1991 track, End Of The Road, to celebrate the end of the 49th season. Jake then expressed that he was 'honored' to be taking on hosting duties and stated that, 'They really bring out the big guns to host the last episode before the big anniversary season'
Jake could be hearing singing, 'We belong together/And you know that I'm right/I've loved you right from the start/Oh season 49.' 'I'd like to think it's also the start of a new one/In many ways this is the real episode, first episode of season 50,' he sang, but Ego jumped in to say, 'Nope. No, it's not.'
Other SNL cast members joined in on the tune, such as Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Punkie Johnson and Devon Walker The star took on the role of Fred in a Scooby-Doo themed sketch that was a snippet from an episode called Scooby-Doo And The Mystery Of The Shadow Phantom. However, Carpenter - who was dressed as Daphne - stepped forward and calmly said, 'You're such a scaredy-cat, Shaggy. It's just me.'
Sabrina Carpenter made a surprise cameo in the skit as Daphne, Sarah Sherman as Velma, Mikey Day as Shaggy and the beloved dog Scooby who was CGI Fred dropped the face skin onto the floor, and Scooby began to eat it. Fred took it away and tossed it towards Shaggy who announced, 'I'm going to be sick.'
In another sketch, Jake took on the role of a father who was enjoying dinner with his wife as well as his daughter and her boyfriend. The four were seated at a table in the kitchen, waiting for the meal to finish cooking The skit concluded to reveal that it had actually been an ad for Apple Face ID with the slogan: 'Never get ripped off again.'
However, when Heidi got up from her chair, she told Jake, 'You stay out of those cookies on the counter. He always tries to sneak one before dinner.' 'Sir, I know we just met, but there's something I need to ask you,' he began, but when he looked up, Gyllenhaal was standing by the cookie tray. 'Cool. So you're just going to roll with me on this cookie thing, right? Don't b***h out on me,' he said seriously, with Andrew saying, 'Yes, I'll roll with you on the cookie.'
She said yes and the camera cut to Jake with a bunch of cookies in his mouth as he exclaimed, 'This is the happiest day of my life. I finally have a son!' However, the daughter revealed that there is peanut butter in the cookies - which her boyfriend is allergic to. Panic ensued, and Chloe eventually put an EpiPen into Andrew's neck.
A list then appeared on a screen next to Jake and he added, 'So when you're walking in New York, you may be at risk if: You've ever been on the TV show Boardwalk Empire' Moranis is known for his roles in projects such as Ghostbusters while Stuhlbarg also starred in Boardwalk Empire. Jake expressed to the press, 'The point is character actors are being targeted.'
He continued, 'You've ever done a three-episode arc on a TV show whose title is just letters.' Show titles such as NCIS then popped up on the screen. To prevent 'future attacks', Jake gave examples such as 'avoid mass transit if you ever played a girlfriend on Seinfeld' or 'a boyfriend on Sex And The City.'
Heidi Gardner then asked the last question of the conference, 'Why does the NYPD care so much about character actors?' During the performance, she was on a set that looked like a bar and she belted out lyrics while donning a semi-sheer, red babydoll dress and stylish heels
