On Friday, James Dolan spoke with WFAN about Madison Square Garden’s controversial use of facial recognition technology. More details from FredKatz:

, joined WFAN’s Evan Roberts and Craig Carton, who pointed out at the end of the interview that he and the owner have a close relationship away from the microphone. In Friday’s interview, Dolan doubled down on his defense of the Knicks’ use of facial recognition technology, but he did say that he may not put forth the one-game liquor ban he had proposed the day earlier..

Dolan also addressed Knicks-related issues during the WFAN interview, most notably his thoughts on the front office. When asked if he thought Knicks president Leon Rose was doing a good job, Dolan quickly responded, “Yes, absolutely.” He added, “The team with the best talent wins. So then you want a guy who can get you the best talent and I believe Leon Rose is still the best guy.” It was the first time Dolan had publicly addressed the current administration since hiring Rose in 2020.

There are, however, accounts of fans who claim the Garden has kept them out because of social media posts about Dolan. Substack’s Ethan Straussbecause he once wrote “Sell the team” on the Facebook page of Dolan’s band. Strauss reported that MSG security uses facial recognition to enforce five types of bans — from softer ones that require letting spectators know that they’re watching them to harder outright bans. WFAN did not address this report.

He backed off the idea he mentioned to Scotto on Thursday, when he suggested that one-game ban on liquor for a Rangers game at MSG.“There is no plan at this point to do that,” he said. “Beer is safe. It’s waiting for you.”
