The former Brighton loanee defender and McClean – a key member of Wrexham's climb through the leagues – locked horns with both not giving an inch. And they secured a 2-2 draw after the madness had dissipated. The Irishman has long been known for his uncompromising style as he racked up 29 yellows and one red card during his Premier League days.
McClean has also never been one to back down and has never wavered over his stance of not wearing a poppy during Remembrance Sunday – emotively stating his case in an open letter. Parkinson was keen to swerve the on-field drama and instead talked up his team for causing Maresca's men fits. He said: "You have to put it into context, they spent so much money on that team and we were in the National League two years ago and we went toe-to-toe and could have won the game."
