Jamie Mulgrew, Linfield's veteran midfielder, has expressed his admiration for Noel Bailie's all-time appearance record at the club, stating that it is 'safe forever'. Bailie achieved an incredible 1,013 games for the Blues during a 25-year career, a feat Mulgrew believes is untouchable.
Jamie Mulgrew insists that Noel Bailie 's all-time appearance record at Linfield 'will never be broken'. Legendary former captain Bailie racked up an incredible 1,013 games for the Blues during a 25-year spell at Windsor Park, winning every domestic honor going. It is a proud record that earned headlines across the world, with the iconic captain having dedicated his career to one club.
Mulgrew has shown remarkable powers of longevity himself, and this week signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at Windsor Park until the end of the 2025/26 season. It will also see the 38-year-old - who is closing in on 800 appearances for the Blues - mark 20 seasons at Linfield. But asked if he could catch Bailie's club record, Mulgrew smiled: 'No, I think that record is safe. And I would imagine it will be safe forever. 'I am just delighted to still be playing and contributing. And still helping the team be one of the top teams in the country. That's the aim, not just for me but the whole club.' He added on Linfield TV: 'I never thought I would be here 20 years. I suppose you could say it is a dream. 'At the time you're coming in the door and trying to prove you're a good player and can have a career here. I have been able to do that, and hopefully I can continue to do that this and next year. 'I am incredibly proud to have had the longevity I have had here. But you can only get that if you perform to a high level, and I am under no illusions as to what is required here. 'And what is required to be a successful team and club.'
