Jamie Oliver has apologised and issued a statement after his new children's book, Billy and the Epic Escape, was pulled from shelves and accused of being 'irresponsible and damaging'.
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has had to apologise and pull his latest children's book from shelves after facing backlash for its "irresponsible and damaging" content, as called out by an education body for Indigenous Australians.
Addressing the controversy, Jamie, age 49, chose to halt sales of the book. In expressing his regret, Jamie stated, "I am devastated to have caused offence and apologise wholeheartedly. It was never my intention to misinterpret this deeply painful issue. Together with my publishers we have decided to withdraw the book from sale.", reports the Mirror.
Reflecting further, Jamie added, "I am devastated to hear I have caused offence and wholly apologise for doing so. I am listening and reflecting and working closely with my publisher on next steps."
