The Kathmandu founder will add the Woodlands estate at the northern tip of Bruny Island to huge swathes of real estate she already owns on Tasmania’s north-east coast.
has set a new price record on Bruny Island – and bolstered her already significant property portfolio on Tasmania’s east coast – after buying the Woodlands estate at the very top of North Bruny for about $6.6 million.
Selling agent Tracey Atkins from Forbes Global Real Estate said Woodlands had sold near the top of its $6 million to $6.6 million asking price, but was unable to comment on the identity of the buyer. The acquisition of Woodlands follows Ms Cameron’s Bicheno Investments purchasing a 531-hectare ocean-fronting property, known as Piano Coves, near St Helens on Tasmania’s north-east coast for about $12 million last year to go with 4000 hectares of wilderness habitat next door owned by her charity, The Elsie Cameron Foundation.Closer to her Bicheno home base, Ms Cameron has long owned the Bicheno Silver Sands hotel site, which is being redeveloped into accommodation units.
The couple acquired the property in 2002 for just $585,000 and meticulously renovated the two-storey Georgian homestead, which was built in 1829 by explorer and mariner Captain James Kelly, the first white settler on Bruny Island.Run as a light farming operation with 200 merino sheep, Woodlands also has a small established vineyard of pinot noir grapes, 100 olive trees and extensive fruit orchards.
