In an interview with IGN, Star Trek: Prodigy showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman discussed their process of deciding what direction to take Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay's characters after Star Trek: Voyager. Dan then recalled presenting Kate Mulgrew with the idea that Janeway could take command of the Starship Enterprise, but Mulgrew was "not thrilled".
There was a moment where we were playing with the idea that could be the Enterprise instead.
