BREAKING: The former NRL star has had his bail revoked by a Supreme Court judge ahead of his sentencing hearing next month.

Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing proceedings next month for rape.after he assaulted a 26-year-old woman with his hands and mouth at her Newcastle home in September 2018.It was the second time he was convicted over the incident, after an initial conviction was overturned in the Court of Criminal Appeal in February 2022.

Button revoked Hayne’s bail and told him to wait in the dock with the court sheriffs until Corrective Services staff could collect him. Hayne hugged his wife and several other crying people before he was taken away.As Hayne walked down to the court cells, a woman shouted, “You’re innocent” and a man called out, “Stay strong big fella.”

“If Mr Hayne should otherwise be in custody, that circumstance should hardly stand in the way of it,” he said. Cunneen said it had been submitted Hayne would spend only a short additional period in custody. She said that 25-day period might “fly like anything” in ordinary life, but that amount of time in isolation would have an oppressive effect on her client and possibly affect his mental health.
