Jason Kelce, former Eagles center and current ESPN analyst, shares his emotional rollercoaster following Super Bowl LIX. The Eagles victory brought immense pride for Kelce, but he also expressed empathy for his brother, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs' defeat.
On one hand, his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles , captured their second ever world championship in emphatic fashion, but on the other, his beloved brother, Travis, lost one of the most important games of his career. Kelce and the Chiefs were aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.
Jason, who was covering the game as part of his TV work with ESPN, had not spoken about the result, but has now broken his silence revealing the range of emotions he went through at the Super Bowl. \'There were a lot of emotions last night, and now that I’ve collected my thoughts, I’ll attempt to share them in the longest tweet ever,' he wrote. 'That game was odd for me to watch if I’m being completely honest. I knew it was going to be mixed emotions before, during, and after, and I now know what my parents had to deal with two years ago.' \'On one hand, I wanted what is best for my brother, and to see his success. And on the other hand, there are so many people, teammates, and coaches, in the Philadelphia Eagles organization that I care deeply about, Many of whom I owe my own success to throughout my career. 'I am very proud for Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni, and this entire team. They have persevered greatly, answered their critics amazingly, and proved themselves to be undoubtedly the best team this season. It is extremely difficult for a team in the NFL to have enough talent, coaching, fortune, and character to win a championship. The character and swagger of this Eagles team was something truly special to behold. A true representation of the toughness and grit that makes Philadelphia what it is. Well done fellas, well f****** done.' It was at that point Eagles legend Jason, who won Super Bowl LII with Philly in 2018, spoke about his love for Travis and the disappointment of seeing him come up short in making history. 'As for my brother, There isn’t a person I love or care about more. It has been tough to process these feelings, of course I feel for him and am always rooting for him, but I know he does not need, nor want my pity. He has amassed greatness few on this planet could ever dream of, as has his team, and they should feel pride in their accomplishments this season and in the past. 'I know right now they are still thinking of last night and the shortcomings in the last game, But in time that will fade, and the greatness they have exhibited as a group will remain as one of the most dominant eras of football ever. Man I love this sport, the people that play it, and the fans that enjoy it. Nothing else like it.' Congratulations, Philadelphia. I look forward to the speeches and celebrations that will happen in the coming days. I mean who doesn’t love a parade! In the words of Chase Utley “World F****** Champs”, and to all the haters out there, remember what my man Jay Ajayi said 'F*** Em' Go Birds.' Travis is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, having won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs. He is a ten-time Pro Bowler, has the most postseason receptions of anyone in NFL history and the most career receiving yards of any Chiefs player, and is a certified lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Kelce finished Super Bowl LIX with with four catches for 39 yards, surpassing Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most catches in Super Bowl history. Unfortunately, it was not enough to stop the juggernaut Eagles, who outmatched the Chiefs in all three facets of the game. 'We haven’t played that bad all year,” said Kelce afterwards. “ just couldn’t find that spark, couldn’t find that momentum.” Kelce is coming off the back of career lows since his 2013 rookie season of 823 receiving yards and three touchdown catches during the regular season. Speculation is rife the 35-year-old will walk away from the sport this offseason, having already achieved so much while building up a lucrative personal brand thanks to his relationship with. \'He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL,” the three-time Super Bowl MVP told reporters. “He has a lot of football left in him. You can see it. He always makes plays in the biggest moments, but it’s if he wants to put in that grind. Kelce is expected to confirm his future by the start of the NFL’s free agency on March 12. In 2024, he signed a two-year extension with the Chiefs worth $34.25 million, meaning he has one year left on his current deal. Kelce has hinted at retirement before, but on Super Bowl LIX Opening Night hinted he may want to stick around beyond that. “Hopefully still playing football. I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me,” he told media.
