One of the last people to see Jay Slater alive has come forward with fresh insights regarding the controversy
Jay Slater 's mate Ayub Qassim, also known as 'Johnny Vegas', has spoken out about the controversy surrounding an allegedly stolen Rolex watch in Tenerife.
His subsequent departure from the property sparked an extensive four-week search operation. The search ended in heartbreak when Jay's body was discovered on July 15. In response to the question 'Did you punch him?' he answered: "No, of course not. Mate, what do you reckon happened to him? He had a tragic accident, you know what it's like. Taking it out to that way. The kid didn't have his funeral, have a bit of respect like."
He acknowledged knowing the group from Lancashire: "Yeah, of course I did, how else would I be around like. We were doing our own things, we weren't out together, cos I don't listen to that music it's not my thing." He also addressed past accusations of drug dealing: "And everyone's calling me a dealer, I was 19, I'm 30 now. Everyone asking why was he scared, bro I don't know why he was scared bro, stop asking me, you're asking the wrong guy."
He maintains his narrative that Jay voluntarily asked to go with them: "He looked at me and said 'bro I aint got the keys to my place, them lot are gone back, left and that, can I roll with you man? '".
