Jay-Z 's lawyer, Alex Spiro, distanced his client from Sean ' Diddy ' Combs, who is also accused in the lawsuit, stating that 'there is no friendship or longtime bond here.' Spiro told NBC News that Jay-Z , whose real name is Shawn Carter, expects to be 'cleared' soon from the civil lawsuit filed last week. The lawsuit alleges that Carter raped a 13-year-old girl at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in New York over two decades ago, with Combs and an unnamed female celebrity allegedly watching.
The accuser, identified as 'Jane Doe,' also claims that Combs raped her while Carter and the woman looked on. Combs is currently in jail facing federal criminal charges in New York for racketeering, sex trafficking, and other offenses. Spiro emphasized that just because Carter and Combs knew each other, it doesn't mean anything. Carter himself has responded to the allegations, urging for a criminal complaint instead of a civil one and stating that anyone who commits such a crime against a minor should be locked away. Spiro maintained that Carter is innocent and the claims are false, adding that he speaks from a position of strength
