Jeff McNeil celebrates after belting a three-run homer in the sixth inning of the Mets’ 7-2 win over the Astros.“I thought it was going down in the corner,” McNeil said of his home run. “I knew it was extra bases, for sure, and, you know, no better feeling once that ball got in the first row.” The outing built upon his last four games that saw strong line drives against the Cubs and he carried over to go 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the Mets’ 9-7 Subway Series win over the Yankees on Tuesday after going hitless in his previous 15 at-bats.
Mendoza couldn’t pinpoint one specific thing that caused McNeil’s bat to come alive, only that he’s “tried everything” and that something must have finally clicked.
