Gary Lineker announced earlier this month that he will be stepping down as the host of Match of the Day at the end of the season, but his replacement is yet to be selected.
Jeff Stelling - the former host of Soccer Saturday - has voiced his opinion that Mark Chapman should be the only contender to host Match of the Day when Gary Lineker steps down.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Stelling said: "Chappers is the man for the job. A great presenter, nice sense of humour, good rapport with the guests. He's got to be the man, surely." Speaking about who could replace Lineker, he told Metro: "I know there is a lot of speculation over Gary at the moment. Would it surprise me if he left at the end of the season? Possibly no. Speculation is rife with names like Alex Scott and Gabby Logan being mooted as possible successors to Lineker. The man himself has confided to show executives his pick for the new presenter - but also remained tight-lipped when pressed on that during a recent The Rest is Football podcast episode.
