The party's National Executive Committee has backed a motion from leader Sir Keir Starmer saying it will not endorse his predecessor by 22 votes to 12.But Ed Miliband, a former Labour leader himself, insisted that the background to the row was well known and that there was"no mystery" to why the proposal had been made.in October 2020 over his reaction to a damning report into how antisemitism complaints were handled under his leadership.
Sir Keir's motion said Mr Corbyn"will not be endorsed by the NEC as a candidate on behalf of the Labour Party at the next general election". The veteran MP, who has represented the London constituency of Islington North since 1983, could still run as an independent - a move which would create a potentially distracting challenge for Sir Keir when voters head to the polls.
