The Anchorage Assembly on Tuesday had approved the ordinance that would’ve required short-term rental owners to locally license their operations.The vote on the measure was postponed from the Assembly's last meeting so an absent member could cast a potentially decisive vote.Ballots were mailed to eligible voters on March 12. They can be returned by mail, to secure drop boxes or at vote centers through April 2.Mayoral candidate Suzanne LaFrance is this election’s top fundraiser so far.
The Assembly and administration have major differences over who sets the policy and what the city’s position actually is.Rep. Kevin McCabe said he wasn’t able to answer questions about compensation for local governments, impacts to local property taxes or how port user groups feel about it.Two of the warming rooms weren't heavily used. The third one has helped the 200-bed shelter at the same location run more efficiently.
