The social worker was so intoxicated on the flight, two off-duty police officers had to restrain her at the back of the plane after she launched a mid-air rampage.
A drunken social worker who caused a pilot to land a plane after causing a mid-air emergency has been given a four month jail sentence.
McCarroll was handed the four month term but she was freed immediately on bail pending an appeal of the jail sentence. However, McCarroll was seen drinking more alcohol and was again abusive to the cabin manager, calling her a “f****** s***”, while also openly smoking a vape. “The cabin crew alerted the captain and the flight deck and he declared an emergency to try to land the aircraft as soon as possible,” the court heard, with the lawyer adding that staff then “put out a call for assistance for any off duty police officer” to help restrain McCarroll. Two off-duty officers came forward and held McCarroll in the back row of seats.
However, he told the court that there were personal circumstances which led to the chaotic scenes on the plane. He said that on the day in question the defendant boarded the plane without her diabetes medicines and blood testing kit through no fault of her own.
