Chloe Fitzpatrick said she felt 'discriminated against' on the flight due to her strawberry allergy
A holidaymaker says she was left fearing for her life after crew members on her Jet2 flight refused to stop selling items she was deathly allergic to.
Chloe said: "If I had a reaction, I'd go into anaphylactic shock and my airways would start closing and I could die." She claims she was also unable to carry out the 'basic human right' of going to the toilet throughout the flight as she was terrified of coming into contact with strawberry protein particles.
"Additionally, it is possible that customers may bring onboard products that contain allergens. However, our highly trained crew did everything they could to look after Ms Fitzpatrick despite this. "I go on four of five holidays a year. It would be a waste of NHS resources to get a test as I know I'm allergic. [By still selling the strawberry products], they put my life in danger.
"As we boarded the flight Chloe wrote down all the things on the menu she couldn't have and it was rose wine, strawberry daiquiri, Fruit Pastilles and Haribo sweets. If it was a consumer allergy, it would be fine for the airline to sell the products but because it is an airborne allergy, if the strawberry protein particle is near her, it would only take someone eating one of these products to cause a reaction.
"It cost us £500 to get an alternative flight home with Ryanair because Jet2 would not let us fly. They [Ryanair] were brilliant and didn't sell these products on the flight. If other airlines can do it, I don't see why a big company like Jet2 couldn't."
