Jet2 is enforcing stricter baggage policies, warning customers about potential fees for carry-on luggage that exceeds size and weight limits. Passengers are advised to carefully check their luggage before departure to avoid additional charges.

Jet2 has issued a warning to its customers, urging them to carefully examine their hand luggage before departing. The airline is stepping up enforcement of its baggage policies, and passengers who bring carry-on luggage that doesn't meet Jet2 's size and weight requirements could face a charge of at least £12 at the airport.

Effective from 2025, Jet2 permits one free piece of carry-on luggage weighing no more than 10kg and measuring within the dimensions of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including wheels and handles. A small additional item, such as a laptop bag or handbag, is also allowed, provided it fits under the seat in front of you. However, any failure to comply, such as an oversized secondary item or an excessively heavy main bag, will result in fees at the check-in counter. Furthermore, Jet2 explicitly states on its website that non-compliant hand luggage will be checked into the aircraft hold. Passengers can purchase additional space for up to three bags weighing 22kg each (excluding infants), but overpacked bags will incur severe penalties – a fee of £12 per kilogram for any excess weight. Jet2 emphasizes that, 'Any baggage that exceeds your total weight allowance will be carried subject to availability and at our discretion. You may also need to pay an excess baggage fee, which is £12 per kg.' Travellers could be charged a hefty £36 fee for suitcases exceeding the weight limit by just 3kg, making it wise to pack light to avoid a financial setback. A Jet2 spokesperson added, 'When pre-booking your bags, the charge per bag is variable depending on your destination, and on whether you make your booking through our website, call centre or at the airport. If you want to check in an additional item at the airport on the day of departure, you'll need to pay a fee of £45 per item, plus any applicable excess baggage fees,' as reported by the Mirror. 'We generally accept payment for additional baggage fees at the airport in local currency, or by a credit card or debit card. If you are planning to travel with excess baggage, please allow extra time to complete the check-in process.' 'If you do find yourself in the sticky situation where you're having to check a bag into the hold that you were hoping to have in the cabin, then make sure you keep all of your valuables and travel essentials on you.' Additionally, Jet2 reminds passengers that 'All hand luggage is carried in the cabin at our discretion, and we reserve the right to check it into the aircraft hold for operational or capacity reasons. If this happens, make sure you take all valuable items (including travel documents, money, medication, keys, spare lithium batteries, and any electronic items containing lithium batteries) and carry these with you in the cabin.' Finally, Jet2 reminds travellers that they are prohibited from consuming any alcohol purchased at the airport (or before) during the flight
