SAN DIEGO — When Heidi Gantwerk left Israel last Monday, she knew something terrible was coming. She said goodbye to her son and friends, hoping Israel ’s Iron Dome would protect them.

Gantwerk is the President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of San Diego. She was in Israel two weeks ago when suspected Israeli warplanes bombed Iran’s embassy in Syria. On Saturday, Iran sent more than 300 drones and missiles to Israel. Although Gantwerk anticipated a response, she was shocked by it’s magnitude.
