Harry Potter author JK Rowling has dared the police to arrest her as new Hate Crime laws come into effect in the UK
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has dared police to arrest her as new hate crime laws come into effect.
She added: 'I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offense under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment.
The new measures aim to tackle the harm caused by hatred and prejudice, extending protections from abusive behavior to people on grounds including age, disability, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity. The author initially sparked backlash back in 2019 when she tweeted her support for a British researcher who lost her job after making transphobic comments online.
She continued: “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”
