The hit show's finale took its emotional toll on the 47 year old actress and with growing excitement surrounding the final episode, which is set to grace our televisions on Christmas Day, Joanna, who plays the lovable Stacey, shared her feelings on the much-awaited reunion and the heartfelt goodbyes.
As the last days on set unfolded, the beloved actress explained that it was like one “big family reunion” because everyone on set knew that the Christmas episode would be the end of a chapter. However, that only added more pressure on filming scenes. The show's heart and soul, co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, known for their iconic roles as Smithy and Nessa, announced this May that we'd be getting one final episode of the beloved sitcom. Filming kicked off in September, revisiting the show's memorable locations across Wales and Essex.
The festive special will see Gavin and Stacey, portrayed by Mathew Horne, exploring new ways to keep the excitement in their 17-year marriage - and fans can't wait. In fact, one of the show's stars, Alison Steadman called filming a ‘nightmare’ due to the strong presence of paparazzi nearby.
