for the Todd Phillips’ film – admitted that he had been ‘f***ing tricked’ into entering the backstage area with members of the media by his PR team, before becoming even more awkward and dishevelled at the first question, in which he was asked about how he approached such an unhinged villain ‘This is old news,’ he retorted while reportedly looking genuinely taken aback to have been asked a question about a role he’d just been awarded for. ‘I’ve answered this for six months,’ he went on.He eventually found the words and courteously offered: ‘The way I worked on this was, um, quite erratic. I didn’t attack it linear-ly. I was most curious about the medications he was taking and the side effects of those medications.
When asked whether the ending of Joker was intentionally left open for a possible sequel, Phoenix shuddered at the thought of exploiting art for monetary gain, replying: ‘I don’t think that I’ve ever done too many predictable things. So if that came up it’s not because Todd or I are following some rule book. It’s because we feel inspired to explore the character more thoroughly. That’d be the only reason for me to do it.
He then asked the reporters if they’d been given any food or drink, and when they assured him that they’d been‘This is the first time I’ve ever eaten the food at this ceremony,’ he told the crowd. ‘I thought it was excellent. I was so moved by the decision to make tonight plant-based. It’s such an important statement. I’ve never been so proud to attend an awards ceremony as I am tonight statement.’And with that he fumbled: ‘My publicist is telling me I need to go home. Thank you.
