It retells the story of a huge scandal
Stars have been spotted in Bolton this afternoon as filming for a new Netflix drama comes to the town.
Jodie Whittaker, who most famously was the first woman to portray The Doctor in Dr Who, has been sighted in the town centre. She is there to film ‘Toxic Town’, a new Netflix drama on the Corby poisonings. She was seen alongside co-stars Robert Carlyle, who featured The Full Monty and Trainspotting, and Rory Kinnear, who has starred in James Bond and Black Mirror.Toxic Town retells the story of the Corby poisonings, which was one of the UK’s largest environmental scandals. The four-part series revolves around the fight of families to hold Corby Borough Council to account over its failure to properly manage the redevelopment of a steelworks.
“The Corby Toxic Waste Case is one of those moments in history that is defining,” said the show’s writer, Jack Thorne. “It showed our ability to close our eyes and ears to the safety of our people. “It also showed the remarkable way that people will fight for what's right. Toxic Town tells the story of these funny, brave, incredible women and the way they scrapped for their children.”
