BREAKING: Joe Biden picks Kamala Harris as his vice president to run against Donald Trump
Joe Biden tapped Kamala Harris to be his vice president in his bid for president in the race againstBiden announced Harris would be his running mate in an email to supporters on after reportedly making the selection hours earlier.‘But the first one is who you select to be your Vice President. I’ve decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then lead this nation starting in January 2021.
Kamala Harris was the first African American to serve as California’s attorney general and then went on to become a senator The 55-year-old California Democrat was born in Oakland to an Indian-born mother and Jamaican-born father. She began her career in law in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, then became the top prosecutor in San Francisco in 2003.
As district attorney, Harris advocated for police reform and implemented early training for police against racial bias. She also led efforts to reduce recidivism among low-level convicts. However, she earned the reputation of being a strict prosecutor who was tough on crime, which has earned her criticism by criminal justice advocates.
After serving as district attorney, she went on to be the first African American to serve as California’s attorney general, a position she held for two terms before using her momentum to become elected as California’s junior US senator in 2017.
