The Department of Education has announced a new draft proposal for canceling student loan debt for those experiencing hardship.
The Biden administration is reportedly planning a narrower student loan forgiveness plan after the president's initial, broader initiative was struck down by the Supreme Court in late June.A draft of the new proposals was released by the Education Department on Monday as something of a Plan B.
While the plan is far from being finalized, the draft proposals suggest the measures will target four groups: Borrowers who currently have outstanding federal student loan balances that exceed what they originally borrowed Those with loans that first entered repayment 25 or more years ago Those who took out loans to attend career-training programs that created unreasonable debt loads or provided insufficient earnings for graduates, as well as borrowers who attended institutions with...
