Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said “unwavering support” for Ukraine will be at the forefront of discussions among leaders of advanced economies. They will discuss ways to lift Kyiv while “imposing costs on Russia and those who support Russia’s war effort,” Ms. Jean-Pierre said. Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has been the focus of G7 meetings since the war began in February 2022.Russia was kicked out of the G8 in 2014 in response to Moscow’s move to annex Crimea from Ukraine.
Mr. Biden’s visit to the G7, a major political and economic summit, will come on the heels of a European visit this week to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy.
