The couple had been drinking with two other couples at the time. A tearful Georgia Barton contacted the police around 11pm, reporting that her husband had hit her in the face.
When officers arrived, she told them that Barton had pushed her to the ground, kicked her, and threatened to fight her relatives. Barton was arrested at his home later that night. The couple, who are still married and living together, had previously been involved in a similar incident in 2022, where Georgia Barton retracted her allegations against her husband. However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed the decision, arguing that Barton should face a trial. The appeal was successful, and Barton is now facing a trial over the assault allegations. His career and personal life have been marred by numerous controversial incidents, including a high-profile libel case with broadcaster Jeremy Vine. Barton denies the assault charge, and the trial is ongoing.
