ICAC had been investigating the former deputy premier over his appointment to an international trade role in the United States.

A NSW corruption watchdog probe has cleared former NSW deputy premier John Barilaro and former trade minister Stuart Ayres of any wrongdoing over Mr Barilaro’s appointment to a plum US trade post.

John Barilaro at last year’s parliamentary inquiry examining his recruitment as US trade commissioner.

An upper house inquiry running throughout 2022 and 2023 heard how Mr Ayres had texted a job description for the senior trade and investment commissioner role to Mr Barilaro. The inquiry also heard Mr Barilaro had allegedly told a former staffer how he would create a role for himself for when he left politics.
