is thought to have left John Bercow out of the New Year Honours list as revenge for his ‘anti-Brexit bias’.

But his successor Sir Lindsay Hoyle, 62, says he ‘deserves’ the honour because he did ‘great things’ during his 10 years in job, even if he is a controversial figure among leave voters. As speaker of the Commons, whose job is to referee debates and ensure procedure is carried out properly, Bercow was supposed to remain neutral.
